چکیده

The leading objective of this project is to rigorously study the asymptotic behavior of wave-theoretic travel-time sensitivity kernels with increasing range, as a means to explain their observed convergence towards the corresponding ray-theoretic sensitivity kernels even at low frequencies. Further objectives include the derivation and study of 2D and 3D first-order amplitude sensitivity kernels, as well as vertical sensitivity kernels for arrival amplitudes, firstand second-order. A last objective is the study of sensitivity behavior of late arrivals depending on propagation frequency and range.

Short Note Component-Dependent Fréchet Sensitivity Kernels and Utility of Three-Component Seismic Records

With the exception of shear-wave splitting and receiver function analyses, the phase or amplitude anomaly of a particular arrival is usually measured on only one of the three-component seismic records. Perfectly good waveforms on the other components are often unused. In this article we show that the different components of the same arrival at the same receiver have different travel-time and am...

Travel-time sensitivity kernels in long-range propagation.

Wave-theoretic travel-time sensitivity kernels (TSKs) are calculated in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) environments and their behavior with increasing propagation range is studied and compared to that of ray-theoretic TSKs and corresponding Fresnel-volumes. The differences between the 2D and 3D TSKs average out when horizontal or cross-range marginals are considered, which indi...

Direction-of-arrival, Direction-of-departure and Travel-time Sensitivity Kernels Obtained through Double Beamforming in Shallow Water

Abstract: In an oceanic waveguide, local sound speed variations induce acoustic path changes (angles, amplitudes, delays, etc...). Using vertical arrays in emission and reception and double beamforming, it is possible, for each path, to jointly track these changes in term of travel-time (τ), reception angle (θr) and emission angle (θe). In order to perform ocean acoustic tomography using these ...

Surface wave sensitivity: mode summation versus adjoint SEM

S U M M A R Y We compare finite-frequency phase and amplitude sensitivity kernels calculated based on frequency-domain surface wave mode summation and a time-domain adjoint method. The adjoint calculations involve a forward wavefield generated by an earthquake and an adjoint wavefield generated at a seismic receiver. We determine adjoint sources corresponding to frequency-dependent phase and am...

Dynamics of Turtle Horizontal Cell Response RICHARD

The smalland large-field (cone) horizontal cells produce similar dynamic responses to a stimulus whose mean luminance is modulated by a white-noise signal . Nonlinear components increase with an increase in the mean luminance and mayproduce a mean square error (MSE) of up to 15%. Increases in the mean luminance of the field stimulus bring about three major changes: (a) the incremental sensitivi...
